GERD Foods

GERD – Foods are one the main factors that trigger the condition even to get it worse. Whenever you have this condition it is very vital to avoid foods that trigger the condition in order not to further complicate your situation and compromise your health. GERD stands for Gastro Esophageal Reflux Disease. This is a condition that is more commonly known as acid reflux. Reflux is the situation wherein the contents of the stomach, predominantly acid are washes back through the valve that should be protecting the esophagus from the stomach. That is why in GERD, food is one of the main things that should be known because foods are the contents that comprise the stomach.

Foods that are commonly known to cause GERD are diary products like yogurt, milk, cheese and even ice cream, though milk can seem a nice quick relief to sooth your stomach but the truth is milk actually motivates the production of more stomach acid. Greasy foods like fried foods, fatty foods can contribute to excess stomach acid. Also included on the list of the food to be avoided are mint, chocolate, potato chips and tomato based product. Caffeinated beverages also trigger the production of stomach acid as well as carbonated drinks.

The time and the amount of food also served as one of the factors for GERD to happen. It is advisable not to have meal close to your bedtime as well as avoid too much eating at night. There are still plenty of foods that must be avoided. That is why it is very important to list the foods that you eat that trigger the occurrence of GERD.
