Acid Reflux Surgery
Acid reflux surgery is considered as the last option to remedy this condition. It is also elected if all the methods of curing acid reflux fail. Surgery is one very effective treatment that follows a systematic procedure using several steps. The main purpose of surgery is to repair the stomach region that allows the acid contents to leak into the esophagus.
Two Types of Surgery
The first type is the Laparoscopic Nissen fundoplication also known as the fundoplication. This is the most popular type of acid reflux surgery. This surgery is performed to correct acid reflux. This is also designed in a way to prevent acid reflux symptoms and to provide a long relief from the symptoms of acid reflux. This form of surgery involves tightening of the walls of the esophagus next to the stomach and then increasing the pressure to the lower esophageal muscles. When the pressure increases between the stomach and esophagus, the content of the stomach does not tend to flow upwards towards the throat and esophagus.
The other type of acid reflux surgery is the intraluminal endoscopic. This is the type of surgery that many patients prefer. The procedure of this surgical follows similar to the fundoplication surgery except that it involves a small tubular apparatus called endoscopy that is inserted in the body to view the internal organs that requires surgery. Intraluminal endoscopic surgery is quick and has low threats for the patients. A post surgery treatment is not necessary but will surely speeds up the recovery of the patients.
Surgery is a drastic measure for any condition but with regards to acid reflux, surgery could be everything that you needed to make your life better and make the symptoms disappear. But the surgical process is not recommended for patients who have less serious types of acid reflux and those who are obese, pregnant and who have certain types of cancers related to esophagus. Acid reflux surgery usually involves very simple procedure, but all of these procedures are considered to provide positive and permanent results for the patients who have been constantly suffering from the condition.
