Acid Reflux Symptoms

Acid reflux symptoms are said to affect over fifteen million people in America alone. In some cases, some symptoms are severe enough to lessen the quality of life of the one suffering from the condition.

Acid reflux is defined as the commonly occurring disorder of the backward flow of the acid from the stomach up the esophagus. The following are the common manifestations of the disorder other than the upward movement of the food:

  1. Acid reflux symptoms often include heartburn which is usually characterized by a burning feeling that radiates upward, from the stomach to the chest and the throat. You will know that you are experiencing such because of the sour and bitter taste of acid in the back of the throat that you can experience.
  2. People that suffer from the disorder also experience difficulty in swallowing, still in connection with heartburn. Normally, heartburn occurs in connection with some activities like, after a heavy meal, bending over, lifting and to lay die particularly on your back. This is frequently experienced at night and it can also cause the patient to feel severe pain. Some studies show that the level of the severity of the pain is the same as angina and congestive heart failure, thus it is often mistaken as a heart attack.
  3. Around 50 percent of the patients experience one of the comment acid reflux symptoms referred as dyspepsia. It is characterized by pain and discomfort in the upper abdomen, fullness of the stomach and nausea usually after eating. But remember people can have dyspepsia without having acid reflux.
  4. There is also regurgitation which is the feeling of backing up of food around the throat. At times acid regurgitates as far as the mouth and often experienced as a wet burp.
  5. One of the not so common acid reflux symptoms is water brush. It is a bitter feeling caused by sudden filling of your mouth with gastric acids.

Acid reflux symptoms indicate abnormal digestive functioning and you should seek medical attention to immediately determine the true disease condition and employ the appropriate and correct treatment.
