Infant Reflux Symptoms

Infant reflux symptoms provide discomfort to the babies. Acid reflux for infants occurs in the first three months of age. In some ways the symptoms are also like to the adults except the chest pain. Below are some of the symptoms that usually experienced by infants:

1. The very common symptom is the spitting up. The most common times for spitting are during or after feeding. While crying babies with infant reflux may spit up and as well as while crying. Injuring to pass a bowel movement can also result in spitting up. Discomfort, distress and pain while spitting up indicates more serious infant acid reflux.
2. Other infant acid reflux symptoms are irritability and colic. Irritability while feeding often accompanied by poor feedings. Sudden crying, pain and colic are considered not normal acid reflux symptoms for infants and should be reported to the baby’s doctor as soon as possible.
3. Extreme pickiness about foods or textures, food tolerances, refusing food, eating only a few bites despite of hunger are also considered as infant acid reflux symptoms. These symptoms are very noticeable to the babies especially when your baby is eating very well.
4. There are also symptoms that occur in the respiratory like constant runny nose, stuffy nose, frequent upper respiratory infections, sinus infections, bronchitis, croup, wheezing asthma, night cough, throat clearing, noisy or labored breathing, hoarse or deep voice. The rarest respiratory symptoms are pneumonia, aspiration and sleep apnea.
5. There are also symptoms that appear on the babies dental condition like tooth enamel erosion, excessive salivation or drooling.
6. Poor sleep, frequent waking, frequent ear infections, resists to lie down, cries when placed on back or flat surface, sleeps only when upright on shoulder, car seat and wedge are some of the infant acid reflux symptoms.

Sometimes the doctors make a diagnosis of acid reflux based on the parent’s description of the symptoms, feeding history and physical exam even if the baby is healthy. Infant Acid Reflux Symptoms should be well observed on the infant and when you really suspects that your baby has acid reflux you should immediately bring your baby to your doctor for diagnosis and treatment.
